The Municipal Zoological Garden in Krakow has an area of more than 17 ha, where you can see about 260 species of animals, represented by nearly 1,500 individuals. Of these, more than 120 species are very rare or threatened with extinction. The most rare and valuable species is the pygmy hippopotamus, tapir anta, Przewalski horse, addaks antelope, snow leopard, Amur tiger, jaguar, Fenek, Abyssinian Gerez, mandrill and the black mangaba.

Children irrespective of age, and of course adults will find Krakow zoo of interest. There is a pavilion with night animals and an egzotarium, this may be a scary place for small children. Therefore, it is good to warn children before entering, that it is going to be dark and what sort of animals may appear behind the glass of the terrarium.

Particularly recommend when visiting the zoo is to see the feeding of the sea lions. They are extremely sociable animals and like to be admired. Feeding hours are daily: 10am and 2pm. They can be found on the main path when entering the zoo, close to the entrance.

Especially for the smallest children:

The Mini Zoo has been created for the youngest visitors. It includes animals that you can stroke and feed (with food provided by the zoo workers). Among these animals are: ponies, miniature rabbits, guinea pigs, tortoises, pygmy goats, donkeys and llamas.

Krakow's Zoo is located in Lasek Wolski (Wolski Little Woods), western part of the city, district Zwierzyniec.

Bus number 134 from the bus stop in front of Cracovia Hotel runs past the Zoo.

Krakow Zoo offers a visitor a great afternoon out. The Municipal Zoological Garden in Krakow covers an area of more than 17 ha, where you can see about 260 species of animals.

Krakow City Center is only a few kilometers away from the Zoo. This opens the doors to many of the famous attractions in and around Krakow city. There is a frequent bus service running to and from Krakow for those of you that do not have a car. 


Wieliczka Salt Mines are one of the best-known tourist attractions in the area. The Wieliczka Salt Mine is the only plant of its kind in the world and has been added to the UNESCO World Heritage site list. 


The Ojcowski National Park is located to the north of Krakow, only about 25 km from the city. This makes it a popular day out for holiday makers from Krakow as well as for a weekend break away from the city. 


Kazimierz is the former Jewish District of Krakow, before the second world war. This was for many the Jewish capital of Europe. Still, it offers visitors a charming and welcoming experience along with an insight into the culture of the Jewish people of Krakow and the world.

9am – 7pm (till open daily to 6pm - last entrance).

Zoo is open all year round, also on Sundays and bank holidays.

Ticket prices:

  • normal: 18 PLN
  • reduced: 10 PLN (it is available for children over 3, students and pentioners)
  • one year ticket: 200 PLN
  • children up to 3 years of age: free


From Monday til Friday you can park your car just in front of the main zoo entrance.

Parking tickets:

  • Normal car - 6 PLN
  • Disabled person's car - 3 PLN
  • Minibus - 15 PLN
  • Coach - 35 PLN

On weekends and holidays, it is prohibited to enter the Wolski Forest with a car. Cars must be left in the parking lot, about 1 km before you reach the zoo. You can walk the path uphill through a forest or take a bus.
