Wieliczka Salt Mine

The Wieliczka Salt Mine is the only plant of its kind in the world, this is why UNESCO World Heritage naturally added this mining complex to the UNESCO lists as one of the first 12 sites picked from around the world. It is the only salt mine to of maintained productivity consecutively from the middle Ages to the present time. Wieliczka Salt mines are forged in a land of salt,the passages, chambers, lakes, and the smaller tunnels connecting the main mining shafts have a total length of about 300km and are located on 9 levels, reaching 327 meters deep into the earth. Wooden churches

The UNESCO heritage list also includes four of the many wooden churches that are included in the wooden architectural rout in Małopolska, namely: Binarowa, Dębno Podhalańskie, Lipnica Murowana and Sękowa. The uniqueness of these church’s is not only the famous paintings that are housed within them, but also the building style and architectural design of these buildings. Kalwaria Zebrzydowska

Kalwaria Zebrzydowska is a very important pilgrimage site in Poland, situated about 30km south-west of Kraków center. It was created as a faithful duplicate of Jerusalem. The entire complex consists of 42 chapels and shrines commemorating events in the life and Passion of Jesus Christ. Bernadine St. Mary Sanctuary consists of a network of countless paths and trails. The buildings of Kalwaria are spread over a huge mountainous area in the Beskid Makowiecki Mountains. In the Holy Week there is organized a live play here, "Mystery of the Passion". In May, of the Jubilee year 2000 Kalwaria was listed on the UNESCO World Cultural and Heritage List, as a Religious and a Landscape Park. more...
